Power Naps

I think you’re going to love experimenting with this week’s Mental Sunshine…

it’s all about the power of a good power nap!

The summer weather always makes us drowsy, and we can often feel like we could do with a nap –

But society seems to have this idea that it’s lazy to take a nap in the middle of the day!

The truth is that it can actually be really good for you to take a nap.

In studies, people who took a nap after learning new things were able to retain more of that new information.

Taking naps can improve your mood and alertness and even improve your memory and reaction time.

I love a good nap;

I always feel refreshed after closing my eyes for forty (or sometimes eighty) winks of an afternoon.

You don’t need to go and get into bed for an hour in order to get the benefit of a good nap.

If you’re at work, find a quiet corner and lean back in your chair.

I heard of someone who settles down for a nap with a bunch of keys in his hand.

When he falls too deeply asleep the keys drop onto the floor and the noise wakes him up!

You don’t have to wait for the sun to go down before taking 40 winks…

Try not to nap for too long, or too late in the day

Really an hour should be your limit, and no later than 2 or 3 pm.

Napping after 3pm can interfere with your nighttime sleep and defeat the object.

I’d love to hear if you feel the benefits of taking an afternoon Power Nap…
