Bold Colours

I had some great feedback from last week’s email – apparently I’m not the only person who values a cheeky afternoon nap!

This week’s suggestion for bringing some mental sunshine into your life is about your sartorial choices.

Do you have a colour you always wear?

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes feel like since my mother stopped dressing me, my clothing choices have become more and more “samey”

If we’re not careful, our clothing can become a bit like a uniform, where we wear a version of the same thing every day – kind of like Steve Jobs, but without the millions of dollars.

Here’s the thing though. It’s all well and good wearing a black polo neck every day… but it’s not very exciting, is it? I doubt anyone ever said to Steve Jobs, I love your outfit today; you look amazing!

So today’s tip is very simple: wear a brighter colour.

If you’re not used to wearing bright colours, it can feel a bit self conscious to suddenly stroll out of the house in an orange t-shirt – but trust me when I tell you that nobody is going to come up and tell you off for wearing it!

Wearing a brighter colour always helps to brighten my mood. It makes the world around me seem a bit brighter and I often think I notice the people passing me on the street smiling a bit more too.

There’s also some science here.

Did you know that wearing warm, bright colours can actually release dopamine, the “feel-good” hormone?

And wearing cooler colours can actually make your body release oxytocin which is linked to a feeling of calm.

Try adding some colour to your wardrobe…

Give it a try today.

When you reach into your wardrobe, maybe pick something you don’t usually wear.

See if it improves your mood!
