Happy Leap Day!

Happy Leap Day!

How are your Mental Sunshine levels this week?

Tomorrow is the beginning of a new month.

It’s also Global Day of Unplugging and World Compliment Day.

Global Day of Unplugging is something initiated by the US Surgeon General in an attempt to combat loneliness.

He feels that we all spend so much time face-down in our devices, and that’s causing an epidemic of loneliness.

I think many of us would agree with him on that – it’s hard to have a genuine connection with anyone or anything around us if we’re busy scrolling through social media or playing the latest mobile game!

But after so long with our heads in our devices, many of us may feel that we’re a little rusty in the human connection game.

How do you create that connection with the world around you?

Well, luckily it’s also World Compliment Day

This means we can all use this as an excuse to bandy those compliments about with wild abandon!

You can use a compliment as a way of starting a conversation or just creating a connection with someone.

An easy option is to compliment something they are wearing.

I like to compliment people on the colour of their eyes, particularly bright blue ones.

If it’s someone you know a little better, try to compliment something about them as a person – the way they’re always smiling or are helpful.

In my opinion, the best part of giving a compliment is seeing the person’s face light up afterwards

Perhaps that’s because I’m always looking for that perfect expression to photograph!

When you compliment someone you open that space for a conversation to begin

And for both of you to feel more connected to the world around you.

What could be better than that?
