Strong

This week’s mental sunshine is all about being strong.

I don’t mean physically strong; I mean the kind of mental strength we develop through doing hard things.

Even the ones we “fail” at.

When we’re faced with a challenge, something outside of our comfort zone, it’s really easy to feel daunted and worried:

I can’t do that…

This is too much…

Perhaps you’re fine with work challenges, but if there’s anything to do with your family, you feel lost at sea.

Sound familiar?

The thing is, we are all a lot stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

There’s a meme that goes around on social media: you’ve survived 100% of your bad days so far.

And that’s true.

When we’re faced with something daunting it’s easy to feel that we’ll never manage it…

But we’ve managed everything else so far, and the world has kept turning.

The best way to feel stronger and more able to cope with life’s ups and downs is to look back at what you have survived so far.

Have a think today about the things you’ve been through up to this point.

Things that have given you strength in the long run

  • Illness
  • Car accident
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Stress
  • Covid
  • Lockdown
  • Redundancy

And you’re still here.

Whatever comes up next, you are strong enough to deal with that too.
