Creative

This week’s mental sunshine is all about being creative.

I think everyone is creative in their own way, but many adults feel that they are not – perhaps you’re one of them?

The thing is, being creative is not the same as being subjectively good at something.

There’s a big difference between creating something, and being “good” at doing it.

You don’t need to be able to create the next Booker prize winner, to enjoy writing.

You don’t need to produce a picture-perfect portrait of someone in order to enjoy drawing or painting.

You don’t need to take prize-winning photos to enjoy photography.

Being creative is not so much about how the end product looks, but rather the process of creating.

When we really get into creating something, we can enter a state of flow where time doesn’t seem to exist.

We get so caught up in what we’re doing, we don’t notice that it’s lunchtime, or that other things are going on around us.

Being in a flow state regularly is really good for our mental health.

As well as this, however good or not your final creation is, it is a unique piece created by you

And that’s something to be proud of.

When we feel creative, we are more inclined to try these creative pursuits more often.

Leading to more flow states, and more feeling good.

And more Mental Sunshine!

Give it a go today.

How can you be more creative?

What are you going to create?
