Are you reading this on your phone?
We seem to do everything on our phones these days don’t we?
Gone are the days when a mobile phone was just for making calls – or even just calls and text messaging!
Nowadays our phone holds our email, social media, camera, banking app, fitness tracker, alarm…
I’ve probably missed about ten other things your phone does for you too!
The thing about smartphones is, they’re really great and everything –
But it’s really easy to get so caught up in the world in your phone that you forget about the actual world around you.
Have you ever walked around town and noticed just how many people are looking down at their phones as they wander on past?
Perhaps one or two of them have even bumped into you!
This week’s Mental Sunshine is a challenge to you: go out for a walk… and leave your phone at home!
Instead of being distracted by the rings and dings of notifications, look up at the world around you.
How many things will you see that you’d just never noticed before?
If you can’t bear the thought of going without your phone, could you put it in your pocket but leave it on silent?
Leave the phone alone and notice nature…
As well as noticing the world around you, it can be interesting to notice how often you reach to take out your phone and do something…
Could it help you to cut back on your screen time?
As always, I’d love to hear how you get on with this.
