Hydration

How are you doing today?

And when was the last time you had a drink of water?

This week’s Mental Sunshine is about something you might not associate with feeling more mental sunshine;

It’s all about Hydration.

Seriously, when was the last time you had a drink of water?

Do you think you’re hydrated now?

Apparently, by the time we feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated.

I try to begin every day by drinking a pint of water.

When you’ve been in bed for several hours, you’ve not had anything to drink the entire time –

That’s a long time without water, while your body is busy doing the housework tasks that often require water.

Everyone is dehydrated when they wake up in the morning, and it’s honestly amazing what a difference you can feel from just getting a glass of water into you.

Research has actually linked dehydration to depression and anxiety.

Your mental health is driven by the state of your brain, naturally – but if your brain is dehydrated, it slows down and doesn’t work as well.

About 75% of the brain is water, so if we’re not drinking enough of course it’s going to affect the brain!

Look, I’m not saying that if you suddenly start drinking the standard “8 glasses of water a day” your life will suddenly be all sunshine and roses – it won’t.

But if your life is not sunshine and roses, you need to give yourself every possible tool available to help you go through life.

Making sure you drink enough water is one very simple – and mostly free – thing you can do to help yourself feel a bit better.

Give it a try.

Make it a habit to have a big drink of water each morning when you wake up.

I’m sure it will make a difference!
