Are you feeling happy today?

Today’s mental sunshine is an invitation for you to ponder the idea of happiness.

What is happiness?

Happiness is a state of mind, and so you can create that state of mind any time you want.

Think for a moment of something that makes you happy…

That’s a good feeling, isn’t it?

Wouldn’t you rather feel like that all the time?

The thing is, something may prompt you to feel happy today – but then you might turn the corner and see reasons to be unhappy.

If your mood depends on all the goings on in the outside world, there may not be much happiness in your life.

I’ve trained myself to not focus on what’s going on “out there”.

Instead, I believe we all need to focus on creating our own happy state of mind, regardless of what’s going on in the world – Most of which is not, and neither will be, under your control

There are a million ways we can do this – I’ve written about lots of them in these weekly emails.

But the main way to do it is to decide to do it.

Simple, yes, but not necessarily easy. It does take practice.

It’s more about forming a new habit of awareness and being aware of how you are feeling right now – and why.

Decide that today, you are in a good mood…

Today, even stuck in traffic, a rain storm just as you set off for work, even politicians – can’t break your mood.

That doesn’t mean that we need to ignore when situations happen – just that they’re not going to affect us and change our mood.

It may not feel like it, but I promise you – you are in charge of your own mood.

You can take charge and decide that deep inside of you, your underlying state is that of happiness.

It is after all our natural state of being.
