Time to Talk Day

Well, here we are in February after what felt like an exceptionally long January!

That in itself is bringing me some Mental Sunshine this morning!

The days are slowly getting longer; spring is on its way!

This week’s Mental Sunshine is about talking.

Today is Time to Talk Day, an awareness day set up by the mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.

Remember that old BT ad, It’s good to talk!

Well, it really is good to talk!

These days it’s really easy to spend all our time on our phones or other devices.

We forget to actually interact with the people around us!

Of course, talking to friends on social media or via email can be helpful.

But you really can’t beat talking to a real, live person standing in front of you.

The connection you get from a face-to-face conversation is something that can’t be replicated.

Talking doesn’t mean bearing your soul, revealing your deepest darkest secrets.

If you don’t feel comfortable talking about how you feel, talk about a TV show you’ve been watching.

Or you could go for that great British subject – the weather!

Just making eye contact and spending a few minutes chatting – can really bring some Mental Sunshine into your day

And help you to feel more connected to the world around you.

So today, in honour of Time to Talk Day – why not ditch your device and have a conversation instead!

Who’s up for a chat?
