Kindness

I can’t believe we’re over halfway through January already and it’s time for another weekly dose of mental sunshine to brighten your day!

This week’s tip is super easy.

And should be so natural that no one should even have to think about doing it…

It’s all about Kindness

Being kind to other people.

There have been lots of studies on this.

Being kind to someone else can improve your mood, increase your self-esteem and even decrease blood pressure and cortisol.

In fact, one study showed that thinking about something kind you’ve done for someone can actually help you to lift heavier weights in the gym!

And did you know that if you do something kind for someone else, you are likely to feel the benefit as much as they are?

This is a great thing to do and can even turn your mood right around if you’re having a bad day.

The list of things you can do to be kind is endless

You could

-Buy a coffee for the person behind you in the queue.
-Let someone out in front of you in traffic
-Always hold a door open for someone.
-Send someone a gift in the post – like chocolates 🙂
-Write a letter to a long-lost friend
-Strike up a conversation with the cashier at the supermarket or an old person at the cafe
-Stop and offer assistance to someone carrying a heavy bag,
-Help someone who looks like they might be lost
-Get some extra shopping to put in the food bank collection point

And you get double points for anonymous kindness…

Receiving this gift of chocolates in the post this week was a wonderfully kind gesture…

You don’t need to do anything that costs money or takes time;

Just smile at a stranger in the street, perhaps say good morning.

It feels good to know you’ve done something nice, that you’re the type of person who does kind things.

And that is some really powerful mental sunshine!

As always, I’d love to hear how you get on!
