Alive

How are you feeling today?

May is the month of bank holidays (three this year!), and of spring doing its thing.

We should be seeing more of the sun, and the world around us will spring into life.

When was the last time you felt really alive?

I mean, obviously, we’re all alive – but when did you last feel full of life?

This week’s mental sunshine is all about feeling more Alive.

Like with many things, this is all down to attitude.

Some people can look at the sun shining in an azure blue sky and feel really alive and buzzing…

Others need to do a bungee jump or skydive in order to get that feeling.

Assuming you’ve not got a bungee jump booked for this weekend, what can you do to help yourself feel that “full of life” feeling?

Get up early to catch a sunrise…

Here are a couple of ideas:

Cold exposure

Yes, I know I talk a lot about my cold water swimming practice – but for good reason! In my opinion there’s nothing like that feeling of swimming in a cold lake first thing in the morning. If you can’t go swimming outdoors, why not try turning your shower to cold for 30 seconds? You might be surprised by how invigorating it feels!

Step out of your comfort zone

Do something that scares you a bit. That doesn’t need to be something extreme; you might feel a bit nervous of wearing a brightly coloured shirt, or speaking to a stranger at the bus stop. Start small and see how you feel.

Try a different form of exercise

Go to a Zumba class, start lifting weights or try something else you’ve not done before. Even if you’re really bad at it to begin with, it can be really fun and give you that “full of life” feeling

Get up early to watch a sunrise

There’s nothing like watching the sky turn all those wonderful colours as the sun rises (and sets). It can feel really inspiring to see nature being so majestic.

Do you have something else you do that makes you feel alive?

I’d love to hear about it!
