The Dove Patch

If you are a frequent visitor to my blog you’ll already know that I am a huge fan of Dove’s real beauty campaign. It is a great message to be promoting and it’s such a shame that so many people do not feel comfortable in their own skin or have the confidence completely accept themselves. The latest in Dove’s campaign is The Dove Patch.

It’s interesting to see the psychological effect that the Dove Patch has on these women and it is a great shame that these ladies need something like this to realise their full potential. It’s almost as though they are looking for permission to be comfortable with their appearance and the way they carry themselves, while this was a great experiment and I’m sure it was a life-altering experience for the women that took part it seems so heart-breaking to me that this is what it takes for people to realise their beautiful.

I particularly like the strap-line for this campaign ‘beauty is a state of mind’ because it is something I have seen a hundred times over in my job as a headshot photographer. Confidence can transform people and really that is what the Dove Patch gave to these women, the confidence to accept and embrace themselves. There have been so many times where I have seen attractive women and good-looking men that have no self-belief or confidence in front of the camera, I will always endeavour to coax out more confident poses from them and to help them to forget their insecurities but it does make it more difficult.

We all have internal struggles with the way we look and who we are but we really do need to open up and start loving ourselves a little more. Confidence is the most attractive trait to so many people and I know it is difficult but we all need to start being much more confident. Just have more faith and conviction in yourself and start seeing yourself as other people see you.
