How is your week going so far?
I bet if you stop right now and think about how your day went yesterday, you could easily tell me 3 things that were not ideal.
You didn’t get a good night’s sleep
You ran out of milk for your morning coffee
You were late for work
A stressful meeting
A long queue in the supermarket
It’s easy to spot and remember the things that go wrong – but what about the good things that happen throughout the day?
I’m sure there are plenty of those too
They’re probably really small and insignificant.
The barista recognised you and knew your order
The rain stopped just as you went outside
A chat with a work colleague
Your favourite food for dinner
What if you started to pay attention to these things instead?
What if you made a game out of it, and made a point of noting one good thing that’s happened each day?
You could do this with your family around the dinner table
Or with your partner before bedtime
You could do it on your own as you’re cleaning your teeth.
What’s one good thing that happened today?
Double points if you write these down, creating for yourself a list of good things to look back at on a less great day.
And triple points if you can think of a number of good things…
Looking out for one good thing each day is a great way to bring some mental sunshine to an otherwise cloudy day.
Try it; what have you got to lose?
