Sing

Are you having a wonderful week!

Don’t worry if your week is not quite as wonderful as you’d prefer, that’s what this post is all about –

Bringing a little bit of mental sunshine in to brighten your mood.

This week’s tip is really easy, and it’s something you can try anywhere, with no equipment.

This week, to improve your mood and feel better,

I want you to try singing.

For some people, your response to this might be Great! I love a good sing!

For others, you might gulp and think But when I sing I sound like a cat being strangled! (and that’s exactly what my daughter says every time I try to sing…)

But guess what – singing can improve your mood, even if you think you sound bad.

And really, who cares how you sound?

If you’re worried about being judged for your singing prowess, sing in the shower.

You could turn your smart speaker up so loud you can’t even hear yourself.

Or the old joke about singing over the hills and far away!!!

Singing can actually lower your cortisol levels and relieve stress and tension.

It’s a great thing to do before or after a stressful day to help you stay on an even keel.

The benefits have absolutely nothing to do with how subjectively “good” you are at singing.

When we sing, endorphins and oxytocin are released by the brain, which lowers our stress and anxiety levels.

So what are you waiting for?

Put the radio on, or find your Daylist on Spotify, crank up the volume, and sing your heart out!

Let me know how you feel afterwards!

BTW, my favourite song to sing loud to is Dignity by Deacon Blue
