We are officially in Bank Holiday season – a series of four-day weeks!
Hopefully we’ll even have some sunshine too!
This week’s Mental Sunshine is all about making the most of the lighter evenings. It’s free and really easy to do.
Now that the clocks have gone forward, we have lighter evenings – and hopefully warmer, drier ones too!
What better way to enjoy that, than to go for a nice evening walk after your dinner?
Going for a walk has loads of benefits – but walking after a meal is even better for you!
When we walk after a meal, it helps with digestion and blood sugar management.
Because we’re moving those big muscles in our legs.
It helps them to soak up the glucose from the meal, rather than leaving it floating around.
Going for a walk after dinner can also help us to get a better night’s sleep.
And it can help to improve our mood, as it can help our bodies to release endorphins.
When we go for a walk it can help us to manage stress and anxiety.
If something has been bothering you, a walk is a great time to think it over and organise your thoughts.
An evening walk is a great way to get out and see the world without crowds of people too.
City centres are usually fairly empty and parks are usually the domain of dog walkers only.
Walking in green spaces can have a calming, mood-boosting effect which is a great way to end the day.
Try it this evening
Take yourself for a nice leisurely stroll after dinner and see how you feel.
