Quality Over Quantity In Followers

When it comes to social media it can be easy to get caught up in the numbers game. Of course it depends on your company and the real reason you joined each of your social media platforms but what I have come to realise over time is that (just like age…) followers are just a number. A lot of emphasis is put on growing followers and using that as a way to show the expansion of your business.

Twitter The Headshot GuyI really do enjoy social media – it’s a great way to keep up to date with a number of different connections all at once. It’s an easy and convenient way to maintain relationships as well as a brilliant form of marketing. It’s easy to see why people would be so hooked on watching the number of followers or connections increase but is this always what is best for the business?

I would personally go for quality over quantity any day of the week. Rather than have 5,000 followers that have absolutely no interest in my business, my service or me as a person I would rather have 200 followers that know what I specialise in and have an interest in my business, my service or me as a person. Are you not much more likely to get leads from less numbers but genuine followers than promoting your services or products to a sea of uninterested followers or even worse – eggs?

Where do you stand on the quality over quantity debate? It would be great to hear your opinion. Leave me a comment or perhaps, follow me on Twitter
