Headshot Hair and Makeup Tips

Make up by Louisa DayLadies, please never under estimate the importance of makeup for your headshots. Also, makeup for your shoot will be a little different to the makeup you wear in day to day life. A professional makeup artist knows what will look fantastic on camera and help you to look your absolute best.

Of course, should you want to do your makeup yourself, here are some headshot hair and makeup tips to help you along the way:

Remember your style

Now is not the best time to experiment! Keep to your signature look, as you want to portray your personality in your headshot. Red lips your thing? Stick to it! Natural face? Stay fresh with your makeup

Matte is essential

Whether it be eye shadow, cheeks, or face, remember matte is always best. Anything with too much shimmer or glitter can come across as shiny and oily in a studio environment

A little more than usual

The camera and lights have a way of cancelling out makeup. In a photo shoot setting, a little more blush, lip colour and eye shadow may be necessary.

Don’t forget your hair

I would recommend visiting a salon for a blow dry, though if you choose to do your own a little hair spray and serum can make all the difference. Stray hairs and fly always can have more impact on camera than you would think!

Guys don’t think that you are off the hook!

A little powder may be necessary to illuminate shine, but don’t fear, this is invisible!

Don’t forget…

Get lots and lots of sleep the night before. This makes all the difference!

Should you be using a professional makeup artist , arrive with a clean, makeup free face. Just apply moisturizer.

Any treatments (brows, tanning, facials) should be done approximately a week prior to your shoot, to ensure the face is fresh and natural.

Lastly, remember to let your personality shine!
